of life in my new foster home! My foster home has two friends for me to play with, both big and small. I get along with them great and you can see in my pictures, I really want a home with another dog! I LOVE cuddling with my Pit Bull buddy and he has recently taught me how to play with toys. Squeaky toys really make me happy! I love calm dogs who don't get up in my face all the time. A home with another lazy pup would be prefect for me. I won't be a good match for a home with a young dog that wants to play nonstop. At age 5, I don't want to deal with young whippersnappers. I also am a little shy of loud noises therefore, my forever home should be without youngsters or respectful kids 10+ years and up. I'm an affectionate sweetheart who loves to nuzzle my head under my humans neck. I even love to curl up in a ball and lay on her chest when she watches TV. You see, my foster mom says I'm a dreamboat of a dog! I'm easy going; a low maintenance pooch. I like to play but I also love to nap! I'm a very intelligent girl and easily trainable! My hound girl appetite means food driven training is easy peasy. Not that I need a lot of training. I already know sit and I've almost mastered "wait" when my foster mom opens the door. PetConnect also gave me an awesome two week training course with a professional trainer to get me all ready for my forever home! My big kissable nose would love a nice fenced back yard to run and sniff around in daily. A fenced yard is a must as it's the only place I like to do my zoomies and my business. I also love walks and I'm a nice walker on a leash. I've gone hiking with my foster mom and really enjoyed it. I'm happy to go anywhere with you. I also ride in a car very well making it easy for me to be someone's riding buddy anytime. I'm ready to be somebody's best friend for life! Amelia is crate and housetrained although she does not need to be crated. She is well behaved girl when she can't go with her foster family out on the town. Amelia would love a home where someone is around a portion of the day as she really enjoys love and attention. Amelia is spayed, up-to-date on all of her vetting, full of love and is ready to find the perfect forever home she has been dreaming of! The adoption fee for this dog is $295 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** To complete an online application, please click here and email Kim at KLarimerpetconnectrescue. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
