er confidence. Mako is looking for a patient family who has the time and experience to help her become the best dog she can be. Mako is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. She does seek out her crate for comfort, so she is working on spending more and more time outside of her crate each day. Hand feeding has been helping her bond with her fosters and learn to trust. She loves mealtime and is a great eater. Mako's leash skills are improving as she gains more confidence day by day. Loud noises and sudden movements still make her nervous, so as of now Mako would do well in a home with older and/or respectful children. She would also be a great fit for a retired person or an older couple who lives a quieter life. Mako initially needs help getting into the car, but once she's in, she rides quietly and comfortably on the back seat. She is snuggly and loves her scratches, doesn't mind being brushed, and she even did well getting her nails trimmed! Mako is a happy girl and enjoys hanging out with her foster sister, so she would love to find a home with another confident, balanced dog to help show her the ropes and how great life could be with your family. Mako will need a patient family committed to helping her continue to grow her confidence. We are excited to see this girl blossom and help her find her forever home. If you are interested in meeting Mako, your first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website! This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in their current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is completing the adoption application, available with our adoption process on our website at .labsandmore. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. The safety and health of our puppies is priority one so we only allow approved applicants to meet and handle puppies. Please understand everything we do is for the dogs and conducted by our kind and generous volunteers. We rely solely on donations and we do not profit from a dog's adoption. Labs and More is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates on donations and time dedicated to this cause by volunteers. Your adoption will save the life of future dogs in need. Labs and More makes no guarantees regarding the behavior, breed, or age of the dogs in our care. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
