the shelter injured where she sat and waited—but no one came to claim her. This young pup was in so much pain, yet was sweet and kind to those around helping her. We said yes to the shelter's plea for help, and Oreo was transferred to Labs and More. X-rays confirmed that this sweet girl had two broken legs. Our vets are hopeful that with proper treatment, Oreo will regain full use of both legs and go on to live a full and active life. Oreo's medical bills quickly piled up, and are So thankful to those who have contributed to help us cover them. This tough girl is well on her way to a full recovery in large part due to the excellent care she is getting in her foster home. This little one has the true spirit of a Cattle Dog: wicked smart, high energy, independent, and a tendency to herd (sometimes nipping during play). Oreo is very affectionate with her humans, loves all people, and gets along well with other dogs. She is a lovely little dog that needs a family that understands the breed and willing to provide training and activities to keep this smart girl engaged. In addition, Oreo needs a family that understands the time, patience, and energy needed to raise a young pup. She is going to need proper exercise, mental stimulation, and your attention and love to grow up to be the best companion. If you are interested in meeting Oreo, your first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website. Labs and More is able to take in medical needs dogs like Oreo because of the generosity of our supporters who donate to help us offset these staggering medical bills. We need your help getting this one covered! Please consider donating to Oreo's medical needs fundraiser, which you can view here: bit.ly/2JGWSIi. Each donation helps make a difference, and as a 501(c)3 your donations are considered tax deductible. Thank you for donating and for sharing Oreo's story so that others may do the same. From all of us here at Labs and More, thank you. This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in its current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and to learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is to complete the Adoption Form on our website at .labsandmore and take some time to review our adoption process. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
