#39;t get her out of her kennel. She would cower in the corner, afraid of everyone. But we could tell that there was a sweet little girl inside that just needed some patience and love to bring her out of her shell. And boy were we right! After a few days in a warm, friendly home she gradually would come to us and show some trust in her human foster family. Now she is ready to be a happy, playful puppy in a real fur-ever family. There are so many new things out there that Brandy is experiencing for the first time! She is working on walking with a leash, but does pull a little. She does well in a crate during the day, but needs some toys to keep her busy. She is a quiet girl; her foster family is still waiting to hear her bark. Brandy is fine out of the kennel at night, just make sure she can get to the potty. She has had a few accidents, but takes care of business right away when let her out. She loves to play, and she has a beautiful play-face. She would do great with another dog for a furry brother or sister! She hasn't met a cat while in rescue, so it is unsure how she would react to one. She is a little nervous around small children, another new thing she is unsure of. She is fascinated by mirrors, a little nervous going through doorways and she loves to run and run when we go out to play chase. After everything Brandy has been through, she is still shy when meeting new people and needs some time to warm up to them. But she is well behaved, and would be a fast learner with any type of training. If you are looking for a dog that is shy, happy and will give you lots of hugs and kisses, this is the girl for you! Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application. Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet! A home visit is required prior to adoption. Wags & Whiskers adopts animals within a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities or a 30 minute radius of Duluth, Rochester, and Mankato. Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination: Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
