Dakota Ave, St. Louis Park, 55416) for an Adoption Event on Tuesday April 2nd 5:00-6:00 pm. Please email inquiriesunderdogrescuemn for questions regarding the dogs. Hi, I'm Harley, a gentle little soul looking for a chill home, and a family to love me! I am timid, but I'm gaining confidence in my foster home. I have settled into their home, and I like hanging out with them - maybe because, as seniors, they know how to “chill.” If my forever home contains another dog, that would be great – I love when my current fosters' granddog comes to visit, and I learn a lot of good habits while he is here. I have learned that a leash means I get to go outside, and I love that! Walking around my neighborhood is one of my favorite things to do, and I like long walks. I can walk at a pretty good clip, but also like to stop and smell the roses along the way, too. I love to eat, cuddle next to you on the couch for hours, explore new surroundings, and sleep. I am a champion sleeper! When I go to bed at night, in my kennel, I sleep like a log. I may lack teeth, but I eat my kibble with no problem. I'm not into toys or treats, but my foster dad is determined that I get a treat every time I “do my stuff” outside, and I'm beginning to like that. My foster parents say I am the sweetest dog they have ever known, and, to be honest, I think I am, too! I know I'm a bit timid, but I really do want to get to know you, and I love cuddles and pets - it just takes a bit of coaxing. I like to keep my kennel clean, so they take me outside right away in the morning, and then again, an hour or two after I eat. I am making huge strides in the potty training department, and it helps that I prefer a clean, dry kennel. When not on the couch with my foster dad, I choose my kennel for naps. If there was a gold medal at napping, it would be awarded to me! I was pretty shaggy when I arrived, but I did great at my first grooming appointment. My groomer gave me a shorter "do" because of all the matted hair I had, but I'm pretty cute when fluffy, too! I know I'm a handsome fellow, and don't mind when my foster dad spruces me up a bit with a nice, gentle brushing. With love and gentleness, I will settle nicely into my forever home, as I have in my foster home. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiriesunderdogrescuemn> ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
