;t necessarily need a whole bite of your sammich, I would settle for just a lick…maybe a very close whiff, where perhaps a brush with my tongue might occur, accidently. Can you say no to this face and still live with yourself? Humans must have too much time on their paws…sitting around thinking...Miniature Schnauzers are utterly adorable…Yorkies are equally utterly adorbs…you know what…let’s make a sammich and make something mutterly irrisistable. Bam! The Schnorkie was invented. My name has been Cooper for 3.5 years. I kinda am used to it and hope I get to keep it since I didn’t get to keep my first owners or my first house or anything. There was a change of relationship status and I needed a new place, so my Foster Mother took me in. She now has a 17 pound poochy house guest. I do not want to out wear my welcome, so I welcome any and all applications. Specially ones that know what furryever means so that I don’t have to pack my bags again. I am a quiet happy guy…for the most part…about the only time I will vocalize my unhappy thoughts is if you leave me in the crate. I don’t like that…for 3 ½ years I have not been crated, so it’s a lil bit too much change for me. I sure would favor a house where the people let me roam like a free range chicken and let me sleep in the bed like a bug, but not the bitey kind. I get along well with all the dogs and according to my previous owner, I did play well with kitties too. There are not any kids in my Foster House or my previous house, but Foster Mother says “he is very sweet natured and I can’t imagine he would hurt a fly”. (I hope she doesn’t find out about that one time I ate a grass hopper…she thinks so highly of me). I am a bit hesitant on the leash, because I didn’t have lots of walkie opportunities at my first house, but I am willing to give it a go and learn. Foster Mother gave me a good groom and trimmed up my matted hair, so I feel fresh and clean, but my mouth is not too minty fresh, she says my teeth are a bit like tartar sauce…and so my breath is a little fishy, so I could use a trip to the Doggie Dentist. She gave me some bones to chew on to help clean my teeth, but I haven’t been that into munching on toys, everything is so different here and I need to settle in a bit more. Foster Mother says, I am a GREAT guy and so sweet and lovable, she can’t imagine any family that wouldn’t think I was the knees on bees. I am not fully potty trained at my Foster House, but I'm working on it. So please email Adoptions@Godsdogsrescue.org and tell them you want ME!!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
