microchipped. If you are looking for a four-legged super-hero to join your family then...have no fear, Freddy Socks is here! Freddy may not have a cape or can fly but he has some super hero powers when it comes to giving lots of love. He is wonderful with everyone - two and four-legged. He has great manners, he meets new people lovingly and does not jump up. He had the opportunity to meet some children between 5 - 15 years old and he was very sweet, calm and gentle. He resided with 17 cats and showed no interest in any of them. Freddy would make a great fur-friend for an existing friendly dog that is looking for a play pal and cuddle buddy. He will follow other dogs, play nicely and then sleep by their side. He loves toys, especially squeaky ones. He has moderate energy and is happy to chill out after play or exercise. He loves taking walks and does great on a leash. He would do great in a home with a fenced-in yard, but if one is not available, leash walks and trips to a dog park would keep him happy. He has no house training accidents in his foster home and is in the process of being crate trained. He rarely barks, is eager to please and is treat motivated. He would learn a lot with basic obedience training and would bond fabulously with his new family. We estimate that Freddy was born sometime in January 2016. He appears to be a Shepherd/Hound mix but being fully grown at 28 pounds, he must be mixed with a smaller breed dog. Whatever he is mixed with he obtained all the perfect genes...cute, mild-mannered, just an all-around sweet dog. Freddy was found in a graveyard living under a storage unit. The people who rescued him could not leave him there because Freddy followed them when they drove off. He is ready to be your super hero and for you to be his, so please fill out an application and get ready for one great dog! Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
