rm preventative and is microchipped. Gentle, sweet and absolutely adorable! That's the Utica pups!!! Hamilton Utica is one of the three boys in this litter of four. He's a happy, playful pup who's good with everyone - adults, other dogs and kitty cats, and though there are no children in his foster home, he's such a gentle puppy, we think he'd be just fine with children, too. These puppies appear to be a Hound mix about 3 months old. They are already house trained, crate trained and walk on a leash. They're treat motivated which makes training easier, so they should each ace obedience class. While you're learning cool stuff together and getting in some quality bonding time, your pup is continuing his socialization and building his confidence. A fenced yard is the ideal safe place for Hamilton to run and play, but if that's not an option then daily leash walks with opportunities to explore and run off-leash at a dog park or doggie daycare will fit the bill. And to exercise his mind, think puzzle toys and games. Hamilton LOVES to play out in the yard and go for walks, and when playtime's over, he's just as happy to curl up on a nice warm lap for some cuddle time. These sweet pups were found in a ditch around Christmas time at about one week old. They were rescued by our Mississippi partner and bottle-fed. They are now healthy, happy and ready to find their furever homes! If you'd like to let Hamilton know that he's won your heart, fill out an application today! He'll be so excited to hear from you! Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
