ts, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Puck! Puck is a playful little pup looking for her forever home! She has a tan coat with some black around her muzzle and a black tail! You may notice that her ears have been altered. Unfortunately when Puck was surrendered to the shelter her owner had used scissors to clip Puck's ears to make her look more like a bully breed. No worries for Puck though, that is not slowing her down, and she is only looking forward to the future and finding a family that will love her the way she is! Puck is currently staying in one of the cat rooms at one of our southern partners' shelter. She is great with cats! She is also friendly with all dogs and adults that she has met! She has not met any children yet. She also LOVES to play! She loves to play with toys, and to chase and be chased by other dogs! She can play rough at times, and loves to roll and tumble around during play time! Puck is doing great on a leash, but she will still need to work on crate training, house training, and basic obedience. Attending obedience classes will be important for your puppy's continued socialization, confidence building and besides learning lots of cool stuff together, for being able to spend some quality bonding time with you. Though a fenced yard is the ideal safe place for your puppy to run and play, if that's not an option then daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park or at doggie daycare will help with the exercise she needs. And to exercise her mind, think puzzle toys and games. Puck also loves a good snuggle! She can be very affectionate when she's not busy playing. She is ready to find her family...if you think it could be with you, fill out an application today! Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
