shadow and really likes to follow her around the house, sit in her office as she works, lounge on the bed at night. Rosebud is great with men too. She lays on her foster dad in the evenings watching TV. Rosebud does well with her foster dog siblings (4 of them, all shapes and sizes!). She wants to play with them, walk with them, cuddle up to them. Rosebud seems to love her walks too! She gets excited when the harness and leash comes out. She prances like a little fawn when she is walking! She likes to explore with her nose in the woods on her walks too! Rosebud is fully house trained. She is quiet in the house, and only crated at night, just because there are 4 other dogs in the house. We all sleep in foster mom’s bedroom! Rosebud never makes a peep all night. Rosebud also seems to like car rides. Rosebud Kane is a happy little dog, with a beautiful black and tan coat, flexed with frosting! She has sparkling brown eyes that just melt your soul. Her coloring makes her look much older than she is; she is a mere 3 years old ☺ Oh, and did we mention, if she sheds, she doesn’t show it!!! Rosebud’s nubby little tail wiggles and wiggles and she prances on her 2 front feet when she sees her foster mom walk in the room, or back into the house. She never jumps on people, sits for treats, is very calm, good on a leash, quiet and house trained. She is of that and even more because she is without a doubt one of the sweetest dogs around. She may not be pretty, or cute, but her personality and sweetness make up for that. She is a true love, cuddle bug and companion. Oh and she is the PERFECT size! 25 pounds. She has the true terrier nose and prey drive for finding the little rodents! Rosebud is not the best with the residence house cat, however, in her southern foster home, she ignored the 4 inside cats. We are still working on the cat situation her in NE. If someone were to have a real dog savvy cat, it might work. Currently we are suggesting no cats in Rosebud’s adopter’s home. The ideal home for Rosebud would be a home where she can get outside for sniffing around, putting that terrier nose to use and taking a daily walk or 2. She would be fine with other dogs in the home, or a home where she is the only dog, so that she can soak up all the affection for herself! She can be in a home with respectful children too. She would make a first time dog owner a wonderful forever companion. She just wants to be loved and get the attention she deserves. So if you are looking for a true companion, a sweet one at that, with great manners, and a love for her person/people, Rosebud Kane is your gal!!!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
