dog JAX NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Jax Best Guess for Breed: Australian Cattle Dog mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years old SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 33.5 pounds as of 2/21 Gets Along With: other dogs. We don't know about kids but if you have them let us know and we can find out. Jax will do better in a home without cats. Currently Living at: DC boarding. Jax is looking for a foster or better yet a forever home. I’m Looking For: A family that will give me the love and attention that I deserve. I am a young playful boy so will need a lot of exercise. I get along great with other dogs and would love a family with other pups or otherwise I will be happy to soak up all the attention and love for myself. I will need to go to the dog park so I can continue to interact with other dogs and humans. I would also want to go to obedience school so I can show you how smart and well behaved I can be at home. What My Foster Says About Me: "Jax is super friendly. There isn't a person or dog that he doesn't want to meet. He is very smart and only after a couple of days is making great progress with his commands. He loves to follow in the house and get lots of attention." Dog Walker: "I absolutely loved hanging out with Jax today! He was so happy to get out and about was smiling at every person we passed! He knows "sit" and takes treats very gently. He also has an adorable little trot ad would make a great jogging buddy for someone since he's so eager. A very happy dog for sure! He is definitely ready for his forever home where he can be spoiled and get lots of belly rubs and attention!" Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any particular dog is housebroken. All our dogs are working on crate training. TO ADOPT: Download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Nancy Logan at nancylluckydoganimalrescue The adoption fee for Jax is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
