ME!!!! Name: Skip Best Guess for Breed: Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 7 months as of 2/18 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 35 pounds as of 2/18 Gets Along With: Other dogs. Skip passed his shelter cat test. We haven't seen him with kids but please let us know if you have them and we can try and find out. Currently Living at: DC area foster. I’m Looking For: A family that likes to take walks, play fetch and go to the dog park. Also someone who will show him the love and attention he deserves. He is a young boy with lots of energy so he would love to go to obedience class so he can show you what a good dog he can be! What My Foster Says About Me: Meet Skip! Our hazel-eyed heartbreaker all the way from South Carolina. Skip is a seven-month old retriever mix looking for his new forever home. An active exerciser by day and cozy cuddle bug by night, he skips with puppy energy best expended by long walks full of interactions with adults, kids, and fellow canines. He loves people and other dogs. Like many a pup, he can be a bit rambunctious in showing his affection with hugs and plenty of doggie kisses. With a little patience and lots of love and encouragement, Skip is fearless and intelligent; he is ready (nay!) eager to be trained. Stairs used to be really scary! But now he bravely bounds up and down them with ease. Speeding cars and other sudden loud noises are still a little intimidating though. He trusts his forever parents will keep him safe on his explorations. In his adorable way, Skip fondly looks back every few steps as he walks, wagging tail, floppy ears, and all, checking in for love and guidance. Skip insists on a heavy dose of cuddles and snuggles. He is a lap dog at heart and loves to be held. After a long day, Skip likes nothing better than to stretch out with a soft toy to chew in his mouth and lean against a warm hooman to doze. He is a curious climber but not a natural jumper, which means he will only hop on furniture or the bed with the hoomans if clearly corralled and sometimes with a friendly assist on the rump. Skip is able to sleep in his crate without issue. Motivated by both food and love, he quickly becomes accustomed to new environments. We have had no accidents in the house. Such a quick learner! So are you ready to start a new adventure with our hazel-eyed boy Skip?! Contact Lucky Dog now for more information on the adoption process. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any particular dog is housebroken. All our dogs are working on crate training. TO ADOPT: Download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Nancy Logan at nancylluckydoganimalrescue The adoption fee for Skip is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
