re pictures of this dog. Zoee is available for adoption. She is 1 year old and weighs 10 lbs. Her adoption fee is $700.00. Zoee was surrendered to Berks County Humane Society. She was then taken in by SAY rescue and went to a foster home in Maryland. Within a few days she become very lethargic and stopped eating. She was admitted to the local animal hospital and diagnosed with a liver shunt, and a few other issues that were treated with medication. Zoee was then brought back to the Lehigh Valley Area so she could be treated by one of the specialists at Valley Central. She was doing well in her new foster home and things seemed to be under control with medication and a prescription diet. After two weeks Zoee became very sick and was admitted to the hospital again. Her ammonia levels were almost triple of what they were in the Maryland Hospital so the surgeon at Valley Central decided it would be best to fix the liver shunt right away. She also had her gall bladder removed and a routine spay. Her surgery went well, and the surgeon said this was one of the biggest liver shunts he had ever seen! So after almost a week in the hospital, Zoee was ready to go back to her foster parents. Zoee has been home for two weeks now and is doing great! She had a follow-up the other day and got her staples out. They did bloodwork and her levels are back to normal. We were even able to stop some of her medication. Zoee will not be fully healed for a few more weeks. She is such a sweetheart and loves to snuggle up on the couch. She is just starting to get her energy back and likes playing with her toys. She does well with car rides and going for walks. She has been good with housetraining and she sleeps through the night. She gets along with her furry foster sister and brother. There have been a few times she did not want to share when it came to food or a toy, but we are working on that. She gets upset when you leave the house but eventually settles down and sleeps until you get back home. She does not like to be crated and climbs over small gates. Zoee still needs dental work done and her knee looked at by our surgeon before she is ready for her furever home. Stay tune to her updates! Zoee is staying with Jenny and Aubrey in Breinigsville, PA. Thank you so much to the wonderful people that Sponsored Zoee! Alexandria B&B, LLC Elizabeth Diersen Mary Ann Ashton The Dillon's (Bill, Louise & Annie)

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
