breeds I am. The shelter called me a Plott Hound mix, and while I do love to play and play, I don't have all that energy like those dogs do. I also don't have a houndy nose - if you toss me a treat, it usually bounces off of my head, lands on the floor, and it takes me awhile to find it. And while I am interested in small furry creatures, I'm way too slow to catch them, and I lose interest. I have been known to chase cats, so if yours don't like that, we probably shouldn't meet. I have extra toes on my rear paws, and a silly fluffy curly tail, and a super soft longer coat - so there's some kind of herding dog in me, but I also don't do any of that herding behavior. So Dennis, you ask - please tell us what you *are* like? My foster family says I'm like a mini-mastiff, with my large head, shorter stocky legs, and easygoing nature. From afar, you might think I'm a scary big dog, but that is SO not me. I'm still young, and silly, and eternally happy, and still have plenty of energy, so I love love love to play! But once I get my exercise, you'll usually find me zonked out, maybe snoring just a little bit. I also have no concept of personal space, so I will always be right by your side, looking up at you with this big silly grin. I do like to play with other dogs, I love going to doggy daycare, but the dogs in my foster home are older and not interested so much. But I'm the eternal optimist - there's always a way to make my own fun! Toys are my absolute favorite - I throw them up in the air, throw them on the ground to roll on them, and roll on my back with the toy in my paws - they just make me so happy! And while I like a good solid chew toy, I'm surprisingly easy on soft toys - I have not torn up any of them, and they all still have their squeaker! That seems to make my foster family happy for some reason. I am still learning that shoes and gloves are not toys, but I really just carry them around, when they are found they are just a bit.....damp. I came to my foster family already housetrained, and have slept in my crate every night without a peep, I'm happy to sleep in until you wake me to let me out. I didn't know many commands at first, but I am so very eager to please that I already walk well on a leash with a training collar, have learned to sit at corners, and am learning other things like 'lie down' and 'give paw'. I am still learning manners too, so I need someone to keep me from being too silly. I am pretty sensitive, I don't need harsh corrections, but I still have that puppy attitude and will try something over & over that you've told me not to do, just to test that you're paying attention. But if you're firm and take charge, I will finally heave a big sigh and give up - hey, is that a toy over there?!?! I really am just an adorable loveable lug, looking for a family to love forever. Tailwaggers 911 has this thing where I can come on a sleep-over to your house for five days so you can see if I'm a good fit - that sounds like so much fun! So put in that application and get approved so we can get started! Adoption Fee: $400 We are a Wisconsin state licensed dog rescue -WI# 402433 ***We do not have a central adoption center at this time. All our dogs are in private foster homes within WI. At this time we only place our dogs in areas of WI. The breed of our dogs is our best guess with the help of our veterinarians. Our Weight Classes are as follows: 0- 25lbs - Small 26- 45lbs - Medium 46-89 - Large 90+ X-large If you are adopting an adult dog, which we consider 6 months of age or older, your adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper shots, dewormed, flea & tick preventative, heartworm tested and microchipped. If you are adopting a dog younger than 6 months of age, the dog will be up to date on the shots as per the dogs age. The dog will be dewormed, flea/tick preventative and microchipped. We only spay/neuter our dogs by 6 months of age. If you decide to adopt a younger dog than 6 months of age, they will need to be spayed/neutered at one of our preferred clinics. This will be determined by your contract along with the month they should have their surgery. This is included in your adoption fee. Once you are approved with our rescue, you can meet any one of our dogs within the fosters home. If you are interested in the dog you met, you can take the dog home under our mandatory foster to adopt program. You receive 5 days to see if the dog is the right fit for your home. If it is, we will conduct the home visit and finalize adoption. If it is not, it is returned to the foster. We are happy to find you another dog that meets your needs in your home. If a dog is listed as PENDING, a family has met the dog and planning on adopting the dog after the home visit has been conducted. We always suggest sending in an application for a dog because there are times where the dogs are given back to us under the foster to adopt program. There are many reasons dogs are returned but normally it just was not the right fit for all. Please go to WWW.TAILWAGGERS911.COM under HOW TO ADOPT . We have an online application that is very easy to fill out.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
