72-6888 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week. I’m a very puppyish young dog who is sweet, loves attention, and lots of playing! It seems that I was terribly neglected, left in a crate a lot and malnourished as a puppy. As a result, I have a funny little walk, with the cutest wiggle and I don’t let anything get me down. After x-rays, the vet could see some abnormalities in some growth plates and joints, but I’m still a lively and happy dog. (just ask for details about that if you’re interested in making me a part of your family) I’m very curious, always interested in new things and like being active. I love to play with the dogs I’ve met at the MM shelter and in my foster home, so if you have an active dog, let’s meet to see if we can be great friends! I like playing with tougher toys too and can keep myself occupied for a long time with them. I’ve been very quiet and well behaved in my very large crate, but I really prefer to be out and playing. In my foster home, I get to sleep with my foster mom, the other nice dog and the kitty and we all sleep nicely together, so maybe you’ll let me do that too? When I’m not playing or going for walks, I’m pretty relaxed in my foster home. I’m enrolled in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have learned ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘lie down’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’, ‘wait at doors’ and I ‘come’ when I’m called. WOW, right? I also ride quietly in the backseat of a car. Right now, I’m working on my leash manners and learning how to walk on a harness as well as a few other commands that my foster mom can tell you about. I’m so friendly and outgoing that I want to say “Hi” to everyone! I’m doing really well with my potty manners in my foster home as I’m on a good regular schedule. I may develop arthritis earlier than some dogs due to the beginning of my life, so starting me on Glucosamine now is a good idea. I can manage stairs—I sort of bunny hop up and down as I go, and it doesn’t bother me. I have some pretty bad allergies too, so I’m on an allergy medication and am doing a food trial with Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein to see if that helps with my allergies, so just ask about that. Older kids as I am still learning how to contain my excitement to play. Energy level: 6-8. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, spayed and my adoption fee is $275.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
