escue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** Belle is 7mo old, weighs 8lbs, is up to date on her vaccines, is intact, and is not microchipped. Belle's guardian adds: "She's interactive, cuddly, and engaging. I can't emphasize how much loves to play with her toys (even by herself), run around, chase, fetch and wrestle around with her siblings. She's so funny and entertaining to watch. She's very loving and will take a nap right in your lap. She is a very happy and will really make a lucky family very happy! [She fears/dislikes] toddlers, and nervousness and shyness + shyness in meeting new people. HATES being picked up by people she doesn't trust !!!!" Belle's guardian explains why she has made the decision to rehome her: "Belle is part of an oops litter. Her parents are our family pets." Belle's guardian offers a brief medical history: "Pups have had recurring bouts of Giardia. We live in the city and it's been going around our neighborhood. They have consistently been treated. Their last stool test was as recent as a week ago. We stay in consistent contact with their vet." Belle's guardian states the following regarding children: Belle hasn't lived with children, but her guardian recommends her living with children, stating: "ONLY older children (14+). Sadly, when we first started having house visits with potential adopters, a family came by with two toddlers who TERRIFIED Belle by chasing her and trying to forcefully pick her up. She has been scared and nervous of young kids since. She doesn't seek interaction with kids, per se but is fine with older kids at friends' houses." Belle's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Belle lives with dogs so her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating: "Belle is very dog social! She loves to play with other dogs and run around. She's never been to a dog park so I can't speak to that but she loves all her doggy friends and is always playing with her siblings." Belle's guardian states the following regarding cats: Belle hasn't lived with cats, so her guardian is unsure how she would react to cats in a household, stating: "She's observed stray cats and has been indifferent to them. Never formally met a cat. Can't say how she would react to being introduced to a cat but no reason to think she would react badly." Belle's guardian describes her as: Playful Shy Likes to be touched Affectionate Fearful Crate-Trained Belle's guardian describes her ideal future home: Belle would love a social home that has time to spend with her and really wants to dedicate attention to her as their companion. She'd do amazing with a small dog as her companion. She will enjoy a FENCED yard, as she loves running in circles outdoors. An experienced and patient owner is preferred that would even commit to training classes if needed to help her get over her fears so that she can grow into the confident dog she really is. Perfect for a house or couple where one member stays at home or works from home. She is a very happy dog and really will make a lucky family very happy! Rehoming Fee: $350 Location: Baltimore, MD (applicants who live within a 1-hour radius of Baltimore/Baltimore County or Washington, DC are preferred.) 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
