al BROC boy a few months ago. My name is Charming Chai and I am thrilled to announce that I am officially looking for a forever home that is just as special as I am. Once upon a time in a former life I suffered a traumatic injury (that I only vaguely remember and prefer not to talk about) that left me paralyzed. I never gave up hope, though, and dragged my back legs around on the streets until someone found me and brought me to a shelter where my BROC aunties saw my plight and moved mountains (they’re very strong) to save me. They cleaned me up and took me to see their special doctors who said that surgery was not an option to help me walk again. Then they took me to a wonderful rehabilitation facility who said that they could help me and that’s where I’ve spent the past several months. I work hard every day and have learned to walk again (please check out my videos on the BROC Facebook page). I also get LOTS of love and attention here because my doctor and therapists say I am just as adorable and sweet as I am determined. They also say that I have now reached my maximum potential and that I can start looking for my forever family. Running, hiking and other physical activities are not in the cards for me but, at only 3-4 years old, I am very active and curious. I am also a supreme snuggler and cuddler who can warm your lap for hours and who will melt your heart like butter in the summer sun. While I am content being known as BROC’s super special boy, my aunties say I also have SPECIAL NEEDS that my forever family must be prepared to provide. First and foremost, I must continue my daily exercises to maintain my strength and mobility (Dr. O. says she will teach you how to do them with me). I would also like to be able to visit my friends at the rehab center once in a while for a tune up and some cuddles. I would prefer a quiet home with no small children or big dogs (they really frighten me). Big children and small dogs I love. And absolutely no stairs. I also require someone to be home with me most of the time to keep me out of trouble and give me lots of attention and to monitor me closely (they say I need boundaries, whatever those are) so that I don’t aggravate my old injury or sustain any new ones (I do like to explore the world). One more thing you should know about me….and this is a little embarrassing……is that I’m still working on re-gaining control of my bladder. My nice doctor gives me herbs that, in conjunction with my therapy, are really helping. I don’t have many accidents now, but sometimes when I get excited, I do still leak (ask my aunties about belly bands to keep my legs and your floors dry). I do have very high standards for my forever home but my BROC aunties assure me that I have a whole team devoted to making sure I get nothing but the best. If you are interested in providing all the things I need so that I can continue to experience life and love, please visit our website at .bichonrescueoc and submit an application to start the adoption process! A volunteer will be in touch to discuss my very special adoption needs. I hope to see you on my next meet and greet! All pups are available as long as their listing is up. The adoption process moves very quickly and most families are approved within 48 hours. The adoption procedure involves these steps: 1. Complete an online application. 2. Interview with one of our volunteers 3. Home Safety Evaluation 4. Meet and greet with the pet. 5. Adopt! Here is the direct link to our application. bichonrescueoc/adoption-application/

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
