Top groomers from all over the world participate. Rescues provide the dogs, who are all available for adoption, for the Rescue Roundup competition. Odie's groomer Macie Pisa 1st prize, which gives her $1000 and a trip to the national competition.
And Odie got his home with a senior man in Palm Desert who has been loved and been loved in return by a mini-poodle. Odie's favorite place to sleep is full body on the pillow where his favorite person has his head.....Congratulations to all!
Odie is a 10 year old poodle/maltese mix, 9-10 lbs. Mostly white, with some gray on his face and ears. Great lap dog! House trained, leash trained. He should be well behaved in a home.
He has two best friends, both senior fluffy dogs. For people, he prefers adults and teens over small kids. He loves his walks. He likes being near his people, whatever is going on. He's smart and learns things quickly- he's learned how to help a disabled volunteer by watching her service dogs at work. Really cute and lovable guy- one of our favorites.
As an older poodle, he can be sensitive sometimes about his legs being touched, but he's ok if he trusts the person.
*Since coming here, Odie has become a celebrity! He was chosen as the face for October in a 2020 calendar- Wahl's Dirty Dogs, available at wahlusa. He received the honor by making the Top Ten of Wahl's annual Dirty Dogs contest, which judges grooming efforts by rescues from all over the country. Odie came in matted after his owners lost their home and was given a great makeover by our volunteer groomer Jessica Meyer.
Our local paper, The Daily Press, featured him on its front page under the title "Apple Valley dog's makeover makes him famous".

For further info on the adoption process, please visit our home page and check out the "Adopt a Dog" section, which has thorough instructions. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated before adoption; they have been wormed, bathed, socialized, walked daily and much loved; each adoptee leaves with a leash, collar, and all medical records.
Our prices are higher than the shelters' because we nurse the dogs through their illnesses and get them needed surgeries. Also, unlike shelters, rescues do not get financial aid from the government and must rely on donations, grants, and adoption fees. Our fees start at $150 and go up to $750. The higher end is for our most in demand dogs, such as puppies, young beagles, and hard-to-find purebred dogs. The lower end is for dogs that have been here for a while. Because we are a charity, the fees for our dogs are officially "donations" and are therefore tax deductible. You can think of it as donating to a worthy cause and getting a dog in return!
The beauty of coming to our Apple Valley sanctuary is that you can see all 90+ dogs. Email your application and ask for more details.
