y: Yes House Trained: Good with regular let outs! Crate Trained: No Energy level: Moderate History: Owner surrender from Kentucky Adoption Fee: $400 From the Foster: Hello, My name is Isabella and I am 6 years young. I am some sort of poodle mix -my foster mom thinks maybe shi Tzu/poodle/schnauzer, but who really cares. I am a tiny 10 pounds but don't let my size fool you. I love to play with all sizes of dogs. My favorite dog in my foster home is a 60 pound standard poodle. I really want to have a dog playmate wherever I go as I love to play. I also live with kids and cats and am great with both. I came to Minnesota from Kentucky with a litter of puppies that were a result of an accidental pregnancy...Oops. I now am getting spayed so that won't happen again. My mom thinks I have had prior litters in the past but in general I was just a loved family dog until my owner passed away. I don't love to be kenneled and will cry. I love to be with my humans and I jump right into bed with them as clearly my prior owner allowed that. I promise I sleep through the night and am tiny so I won't take up a lot of space in your bed. My foster mom says I am great about not having any accidents in bed either. I do need to be let out every few hours but my foster mom says I do amazing on a regular potty schedule. I will be fine being left for a few hours at a time but would not be able to hold it all day while my owners are gone and I really don't like to be kenneled for hours either so my foster family has allowed me to roam as I was used to doing before I came here. I love to potty outside, but I do need to be let out as I said before every few hours or I may have an accident. When my foster dad picks me up, I am sometimes nervous tinkle, but I don't do that often and only did it with my foster dad. I can't wait to find my forever home. My dream is to have a doggy friend and humans that are with me a lot so I can keep on my potty schedule and someone who will let me keep them warm at night in their bed. Other than that, I am really easy and so cute. I love to dance on my two back legs. I sit without being told when I go up to people and I love a good movie night. With my cute face, I am sure there is someone out there that is perfect for me.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
