ially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Sexy senior citizen looking for a lady love. Date into Rescue: 12/03/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Rescue transfer. Chancho was rescued from a puppy mill. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 12 lbs Height: unknown Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Chanco would do well in a number of environments, especially if they included a lot of lap time. He's a quiet and well behaved boy who is wishing for that well ordered household where he can find a place and be part of things again. Owner Experience 5: More than 10 years as a dog owner. Has experience as a dog owner but has had no behavior or medical challenges to work with. What is my personality like? Chanco was first at our rescue in 2012 after he was turned in to a local shelter as his owners were moving. It's the best thing that could have happened because it turns out our boy had heartworms. He was treated and placed in a loving home but in November of this year, his loving owner passed away. The family must not have read the contract or know of our commitment because they sent Chancho to the local shelter but fortunately he was microchipped and the chip led them back to CPR. Chancho is sad here because he misses his owner who passed away. He is such a sweet boy; he appreciates any attention and he remembers people who have been kind to him. He follows around one of the caregivers who first bathed and groomed him at the farm. He'll rub his head against her legs to get her attention. He would love to go back to being the center of someone's world. Chancho is looking for a retirement home where he can be appreciated for the true lap dog that he is. He isn't high energy and he doesn't ask for much. A warm lap, some tasty food, and someone to spend his time with is really all that he wants. While he can be shy when first meeting someone, treats will win him over. Since he returned to us, he's had a dental and had a vet check. He gets along well with other dogs and he is crate trained. He would be an easy and loving addition to a home. If you are looking for a dog that loves to cuddle, Chancho might be the right guy for you. He makes a great nap buddy, too. How do I act when I first meet new people? Chanco is curious and a bit cautious but he warms up. He's a quiet guy so Chancho's love is not an exuberant one. It's more low key. Other tips and tidbits: Chanco will be at the Best Friends Super Adoption June 2-3 in White Plains, NY. Come out and meet him Saturday, June 2: 10am - 7pm or Sunday, June 3: 10am - 5pm. We'll be at Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
