Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. He will climb a fence in a heartbeat to get wherever he wants to go, which is usually near his people. What kind of home would be best for me? Lucca is a young dog with absolutely no manners. He requires a very experienced owner that is willing to work with Lucca and invest in training with him to teach him that humans are alpha and he cannot rule the house. Lucca will not be placed in a home with any children under 18; he requires an, adult-only home. He would do best with no dogs in the house to begin with but once training is established he could move to having a brother or sister! Lucca would highly benefit from someone who is very interested in behavior and modificaiton and management with guidance from a positive motivation trainer. He is wicked smart, treat motivated and very much able to learn. The more he learns and the more confident he becomes, the better dog we believe he will be. But you'll never turn you back on this guy. He'll take advantage in a heartbeat. What is my personality like? Lucca has been a bit of a mystery to our team of caregivers. He arrived at Dreamweaver Farms a very young dog with absolutely no manners. He was confused and stressed and very snappy. Within the first 48 hours he scaled every fence he could and frequently climbed on top of cars parked in the parking lot. What a bundle of energy! As Lucca has settled in, we have seen more of the young, energetic side you expect from a young dog instead of the stressed dog trying only to figure out how to leave. He loves to go for walks and only pulls slightly on a leash. He enjoys riding in the car, preferring to sit in the seat beside you or in a lap. He is a bouncy, happy boy when he is with the right people. We like to describe Lucca as a bachelor looking for his forever lady! Lucca is really responsive to the young ladies here at the farm. Like a bachelor he has about 6 different ladies that have his heart! Could you be the final lady to land the special rose from Lucca?! How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly, but unpredictable Other tips and tidbits: Lucca is largely a product of his environment. He was not trained on basic manners during his formative year and as a result, he thinks that he is forever the top dog. His forever family must be committed to working with him through these behaviors. Luccas has been with us for almost a year and we're just now putting him up for adoption. He's grown and matured in the last year. Lucca can still be unpredictable but has came a long way in the time he has been a part of the farm. He is still selective about some dogs but he is now part of a play group and has many friends. He has an obsession with playing ball but has gotten so much better about not resource guarding his ball that now it's fun, not a challenge! Lucca will hide his ball in his crate but doesn't growl when taking it out now. That's progress. We still are working on manners and he can catch the ball in his mouth now! He wants to be near people, but if you are too in his space when he is not in the mood he will growl. We are still working on the growling, but caregivers have said he just gets mad when he has to go in his crate with no treat, so he expresses his concern for his treat but we feel like its just him stating that he deserves a treat! He is a young dog with a ton of potential for the experienced, patient family that pus in the work. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet.
