happy, playful and assertive. Yuri quickly connects and bonds. Loves to give kisses and excitedly lets you know how important you are to her. All she needs is the right human to share a lifetime of happy memories, excited greetings, strolls along the park, car rides and many movies as she will contently lay right beside you. Yuri loves going a walks and does great on leash. She's house trained doing her business outdoors. Given the chance she'll keep herself entertained keeping your yard free from birds and squirrels. She also does well in a crate and is a great travel companion loving to go on car rides. She is an easy going girl and a real pleasure to have around. Loving too much has been Yuri's downfall. When she bonds she is protective of her human and becomes a little possessive. She'll bark at strangers (a cute fairly quiet bark) but once assured there is no danger (and is distracted with a high value treat and praise) she goes back to her happy self. Yuri will need an owner who can let her know that she doesn’t need be protect her people; that they can take care of themselves. Yuri needs a kid free home (over 15) as she has been known to nip and bite at children who are too “busy” and who don’t understand that she is possessive of her quality time spent with her human. She does fine around cats, dogs and people but she sometimes tries to keep them at bay from her human, by barking or growling and even chasing (snapping but never biting). This habit of hers will quickly diminished within a very short time removing her from the situation (i.e. if she is on a lap protecting then she goes on the floor and is ignored); and by constantly giving her praises when she's behaving well. Overall, Yuri is the perfect dog for someone who wants the company of a sweet, loving, loyal pal. Someone who will be consistent with her training to ensure everybody gets to enjoy the amazing dog she is. If you can offer adorable girl a home full of hugs, walks and play time , please complete an adoption application here: http://fuzzypawzrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application-2/ Yuri is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped There is a $125 adoption fee for Yuri

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
