Poodle (Miniature)-Unknown Mix Dogs For Adoption in Chandler, AZ, USA

Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (short coat). Hello. I am Little John Young!! I'm a very special boy who needs lots of patience and trust-building in a very mellow home. You see, I was

locked in a bathroom of a hoarder's home for my first five years of life, and only fed food through the crack at the bottom of the door. I was so scared and lonely! I even had to have 33 rotten teeth removed, so I only have six left. I am slowly learning to trust humans but I admit that I have a road of recovery ahead of me. I am working on it, though, and I'd love to have you by my side as I get better. My foster parents have said I've improved so much in the last few months! Now I sleep in bed with them at night, love to cuddle, and play in the pool. I just know that we could love one another. I don't take up much room and I don't shed at all! My ideal home would be a quiet home with few visitors. Ideally, a single person or two people who are dedicated to me and to my progress. I do fine with other dogs as long as you introduce us slowly. Once I know them, I can walk alongside other dogs like a pro. Now, I hang out with the big dogs in the house all day. I think it's pretty cool! I've come a long way! But... I don't want to play with them and if they are boys I really do not like them that much at all... I pick fights that I can't back up. I'm leash-trained, crate-trained, and I do love a good ride in the car. I also love to play with my toys and, then, when we're tired, I'd love to sit on your lap and cuddle. Because kids move so quickly and unpredictably, I really don't want to live in a home with children. I'm ashamed to admit that I am a bite risk, if I'm not handled properly. But it's only because I'm scared of new people. With the start that I had, can you blame me? But I am a really forgiving little guy. My foster parents have gained my trust, and I sit on their laps, play fetch in the yard, and go for daily walks. I would love to find my forever home with people who will love me as much as I will love them. Do you have a place in your heart for sweet little me? *John will do best in a home with a doggy door, he LOVES to zip through and do his patrol around the yard! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
