ved in relationship to age, size, breed, behavior, housebreaking, crate training, good with children, cats, dogs, and strangers. Dogs may present themselves differently in different environments, therefore The Dog Spot Rescue, their agents, volunteers, can not guarantee behavior, age, size expectations, breed, house Training, destructive behavior tendencies, and/or medical issues. All dogs from shelters have been subjected to pathogens from the shelter level which can materialize into disease in the future. Each adopter must observe for themselves pre-adoption and make decisions for themselves the suitability of said dog and their tolerance levels for transitional time when adopting a shelter dog. We ask that each adopter take their time when making the choice to bring home a rescued dog. Sweet blind boy hoping for a home and a heart to call his own Shelter staff said "You won't want this one..." "He is sight impaired, an older dog-not highly adoptable...." Well we disagree. Alfie is a wonderful boy. He is loveable, quiet, well mannered, housebroken, shed free, and gives his heart readily. He wants a home and a heart to call his own. Great with kids, good with cats fine with any other dog tall to small. He is passive, drama free, loves a soft bed, enjoy belly rubs and cuddles. What is there not to love? He navigates well inside and outside. He is sight impaired but he handles it with grace. Alfie deserves a nice family or person to love. He is healthy, in good weight, LOVES his food. We are on acreage here and he just hangs out around close to the house and follows us around. But he is perfectly happy to be in the house and waiting for you to come home. He is good company for another quiet dog or cat. Adoption is $275.00 and includes his neuter, shots, rabies, bordetella vaccine, de worming treatment, and chip. He comes with a 30 day post adoption trial. All medical records are available to go home with him. If interested in meeting this cutie pie, please fill out an on line application at: thedogspot.rescuegroups.org and the contact us for a meet and greet appointment, by e-mailing: thedogspotrescue@aol.com. He is a fabulous companion dog and is waiting to meet you! Your Adoption Fee covers the following expenses: Spay/Neuter, DHLPP, Bordatella, Rabies (if age appropriate), De-worming and Frontline/Advantage Please Note: Shelter/rescue dogs have been exposed to many pathogens such as kennel cough, parasites, diseases and conditions some of which may not have been discovered prior to adoption. Any dog that shows symptoms here at TDS are routinely identified, taken for tests and treatment. Our vet bills can exceed $10,000 a month. However, without symptoms, we may miss a disease, or pre-existing condition or parasite. Consider carefully if you have the tolerance for these possibilities. We consider, you, the adopters, the last leg of the rescue process.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
