A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, family expanding and feel it is best to re-home Lance.

Notes from a volunteer who has been working with Lance: Lance is a fantastic and beautiful boy! He just turned one year old, and he has a ton of puppy energy and enthusiasm. His previous owner worked with him and taught him basic commands. He is food motivated which makes him easy to train, as he's very willing to "work for food!" He loves to chase frisbees and tennis balls, and will bring them back to you.
Lance was recently diagnosed with Addison's disease, which occurs when the adrenals don't produce enough steroid hormones. It is a manageable condition. In other words, Lance is a perfectly normal Standard Poodle who has a condition that can be managed and controlled with medication. As long as he gets this medication, he can do everything that other dogs do, and he can live a long and healthy life.
To manage the condition, Lance gets a daily tablet of prednisone, and a Percorten injection every 28 days. Your vet can teach you how to give the injection at home. (There is also a different way to treat this that involves pills rather than shots.) He will need occasional blood work to monitor his electrolytes.
Some people find it "scary" when they hear a medical diagnosis. But I have a condition where my thyroid doesn't produce sufficient thyroid hormone, so I take a daily pill and get occasional blood work too. Addison's is pretty much the same.... Your vet can tell you more about Addison's. There is also a good Addison's disease group on Facebook called Canine Addison’s Resources & Education (CARE). I learned a lot about Addison's by reading their files and information.
What kind of home would be best for me? A home with an owner who will give Lance his Addison's medications, and will love him and treat him like the puppy that he is! And Lance must go to a home where he is the only pet.
What is my personality like? Lance was an owner release due to the family expanding, as having a high energy puppy was just too much for the family to deal with. Lance needs someone who will treat him like the normal puppy that he is. Lance is happy, playful and energetic. As long as he has food to eat and someone that will spend some time with him, he feels that he is the luckiest dog in the world! Lance is extremely smart, He knows how to sit, lie down, give handshakes and also do high fives! He is very food motivated. You could probably teach him anything as long as you have treats!
How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. And if you have treats when meeting him, he wants to know all about you!
More tips and tidbits: For some unknown reason Lance is not a fan of brooms/mops. He walks great on a leash but gets distracted by any and everything, He likes to chase butterflies!
So far, Lance has resisted our efforts to find a playmate for him. He would do best as an only dog.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
