eceiving your email!**The rescue support donation is not for the 'purchase' of a dog, but rather to cover the medical and other costs of all dogs in our care. Shelter support donations are NOT NEGOTIABLE for that reason. Please respect that and do not email us to ask. Without ongoing support and adoption fees, our rescue WILL CEASE TO EXIST!**No phone calls, EMAIL ONLY, AlphaMom33aol to get an application, thank you for understanding.** **These dogs are in foster homes, not a shelter setting; therefore we only accept appointments for those reasonably sure they WILL adopt the dog for which they are applying.** At A Glance: Meet Theo! Breed: Standard Schnauzer and Poodle (25lb) Age: 2 years Energy: lively and playful Barking: will readily alert bark Size: 25 lb. Kids: OVER 10 no exceptions - including visiting grandkids Cats: VERY dog-savvy cats only, he's good if they don't run! Dogs: a smallish female (spayed) PERHAPS but Theo would be best as an ONLY DOG. This includes *after* he's adopted, so be the type person who enjoys one-on-one hanging out with your pooch! Health: excellent, Theo is an amputee of his right back leg, affectionately known as a 'tri-pawed'. This affects him in no way, he runs like the wind and loves life and lives it to the fullest! Dogs don't sit around mourning what they don't have - that's what makes them so wonderful! Theo came in as a foster dog, but due to the recent loss in our family and subsequent changes in our living situation, we need to find him a new, permanent home. He is 2 years old and is whip-smart and a quick learner. He was graduated from basic obedience straight to Canine Good Citizen class, which he passed easily! We'd known him mere months when we enrolled in the class which is quite an impressive feat for him. He did finish as a 3-legged dog, another feather in his cap! Theo is registered with the AKC Pals program so he could do any AKC classes and activities out there, including agility and barn-hunts! Theo should go to a home with no other dogs due to his possessive tendencies. He is a sweetheart, but gets "jealous" and guards his person from other dogs. He's never hurt another dog but it's difficult to pay attention to him as a result of this. He *might* be able to live with a nice but slightly dominant female of similar size or smaller than him, as he regards our older female as 'the boss' and doesn't guard from her. He is afraid of larger dogs. **Absolutely NO dog parks** Any home who adopts him must understand this, and be happy with a ONE DOG home ONLY. We know they are out there. And Theo LOVES older people (seniors especially!) Theo is neutered (of course), chipped/registered and he IS a THREE LEGGER/Tri-pawed! He is 25lb. and is believed to be mostly Standard Schnauzer with possibly Poodle mixed in. He runs like the wind and his different-ability doesn't slow him down! Theo is good with kids over 10 - he likes younger kids in his therapy work but not for his living situation - this is not negotiable and includes visiting grandchildren if present. If anyone would like to know more, email us at Alphamom33aol! His new home will need to either know how to groom him or be able to spend the $60 + every other month to have him professionally groomed. Ongoing training (this is a MUST) will be POSITIVE based and NOT "SIT MEANS SIT"! They train with shock collars and this would be disaster for Theo! Theo was on track to become a Therapy dog until the loss of our family member put everything on extended if not a permanent hold There's a $595 donation to adopt Theo. This is on the higher side but he's worth that, and more - we've spent in excess of $400 for training and grooming alone. His vet care was well over $1k for neuter and amputation. .facebook/pages/A-PAW-UP-Rescue-E-WA/92163841238 EMAIL US - AlphaMom33aol TO REQUEST AN APPLICATION-We WILL RESPOND within 24 hours (usually less!) All adopters are required to pick up their new family member HERE, within a week of your application being completed and being approved to adopt. Because this is our home, we have LIMITED SPACE to keep dogs, THANK YOU for your understanding. The sooner an adoptable dog finds a home, the sooner we can rescue another! ****If you are unable to come adopt for longer than a week, a deposit ($50) and/or a $10/day donation towards boarding may apply!**** *Be aware that if you cannot adopt the puppy you've already placed a deposit on, you forfeit your deposit and it becomes a donation to our rescue.* Thank you for your understanding. **All our foster dogs and puppies have been vaccinated with Galaxy DA2PPv at least ONE TIME. When appropriate and available, they get a rabies vaccination, and they have been dewormed at least once. They come with a health record that reflects this at the time of adoption. They are also Microchipped and come with a free month of health insurance.** No meet and greets take place without a completed/approved application. **We DO allow out of state adoptions, but we DO NOT ship our pets. **These dogs are in foster homes, not a shelter setting; therefore we only accept appointments for those reasonably sure they WILL adopt the dog for which they are applying.** The rescue support donation is not for the 'purchase' of a dog, but rather to cover the medical and other costs of all dogs in our care. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
