Sky - Arriving 6/30. Accepting applications now. Available to meet adopters after 7/9. ABOUT US To start the process to meet any of our dogs, first submit this application: http://form.jotform.us/form/41555257797165 and then notify your vet we'll be calling for a reference. Prior to meeting you, all of our dogs have been seen by a vet, received vaccinations and a 4DX test if 6 months or older, been wormed and treated with flea/tick preventative and received a health certificate. This vetting is done before we even bring them into our foster home. We advise all adopters to have a fecal test done within 2 weeks of adoption in the event that our fecal test was a false negative due to no worms having passed in that stool sample. Emails are responded to but we do not put you into the queue to adopt until your application is received. Casual emails with us will not get you a meeting with any of our dogs. If you're serious about adopting, please submit the application. The way our application is set up, it will also help you assess if you are even ready to adopt/realistic about adopting. Adoption Fees: Up to 6 years old $325+tax 7-8 years old $275+tax 9+ years old $200+tax Adoption Application So many people inquire but do not submit an application. Here's a tip: we do not proceed with a meet-n-greet until we review an application (to see if you and the dog are a potential good fit). So if you don't bother to submit the app, no matter how many emails you send us, you are not in the running to adopt the dog. Also you need to check your email if you contact us. We've had people yell at us for not responding to them, meanwhile our response has been sitting in their in box for over a week. In the interim, we have assumed since they didn't respond they are not interested and we have moved on to the next adopter. If you are more than 75 minutes from zip code 18330, you must drive to us to adopt after the home visit is complete. Our process: application, vet reference check, conversation about the dog, home visit, meet the dog. If interested in this dog, submit the application to start the process. We adopt to suburban areas of PA, NJ, CT, southern upstate NY, DE or MD. Long distance adopters must come to us in northeastern PA to adopt after the application is approved and home visit is complete. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
