his people. HOSPICE CARE UPDATE - 9/4/25 Pickles is a Camp and Treat App favorite and Sanctuary resident, and a pup everyone who follows us knows….our Pickles. This boy was brought in as a stray by the dog warden 12/19/2021 in pretty bad shape….and “not in a good mood” if you catch our drift! He was not at all pleased being with us for the first few months he came to stay at Camp. The staff worked with him and worked with him until he started to realize people weren’t all that bad and that high value treats came with realizing that bit of information. Then came long walks around the ponds and swimming in the creek, romping around in his private pen, and having some very special people attend all his needs…Pickles settled into being a happy boy. Last fall/winter our sanctuary dogs had their rooms upgraded by a wonderful woman’s donation (more about that another time) into “no touch rooms”. There are no more kennels: just people beds and tv’s, radios and private pens with doggie doors to come and go as you please. Pickles has loved the upgrades and for being at Camp…is living his best life so far. Unfortunately our kennel manager discovered his lymph nodes the size of golf balls while brushing him…they popped out suddenly….we called the vet office and while waiting a couple days to get in….another in his chest. Our hearts sunk and our worst fears were realized when the biopsy came back positive for lymphoma. Pickles is now in hospice care at Camp, taking mushrooms and meds for pain to keep him comfy. He is loving his car rides, McDonald’s, and pup cups. If you would like to donate to help us make whatever time he has left with us special for him… we will use those donations for hamburgers, meatballs, pup cups, and whatever else Pickles wants…Pickles will get! Www.camppapillon BIO: Pickles is super affectionate and loves to spend time with his people. Pickles enjoys lounging on the couch, going for long walks around our pond, car rides, treat puzzles and having play time in the pen. Pickles is a cuddle bug and will find the perfect spot right on top of you! This boy is housebroken, crate trained and active. Pickles must be an only pet, but has so much love to give. A teenage and up or adult only home would be best for him due to his energy and size! Complete an application at .camppapillon. Once your app is approved, the office will schedule an appointment to meet Pickles!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
