Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Tigre! Tigre was surrendered to the South LA Shelter by his former guardians when they were moving. They reported that he was an outside dog,

living in the backyard his whole life. Tigre spent the next 588 days at the shelter, where he was a staff and volunteer favorite. He was scheduled to be euthanized on November 1st, but instead, he became a Frosted Face! Tigre is 15 years old and weighs 52 lbs. Tigre greets everyone that enters the play yard and shows so much love and trust in humans despite being let down by his family and spending nearly two years in the shelter. He makes himself at home in your lap! He is a great hiking buddy with plenty of energy. In a car, he is a calm, quiet passenger. Tigre enjoyed a recent trip with volunteers to the mall to meet Santa. We can guess what he asked Santa to bring him for Christmas: a forever home, of course! Tigre is very loving and affectionate with people, but spending your whole life alone outside doesn’t do much to develop social skills with other dogs. He will need to be the only pet in the home, but for that reason, we offer a paid foster opportunity through our Molly & Me Project. (See requirements below.) Tigre is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, and we are so happy for him! He has never known the comfort of a home environment, only the backyard and a kennel. His Fling Mom sent a great update: "Tigre is such a great mix of high energy/low energy! He is very high energy on walks (first time I got in all my steps in a long time), and after a walk he just passes out for long naps. He is getting much more comfortable here and has completely taken over my couch. No accidents yet and no marking in the house. He is an excellent office assistant, too! I see more personality coming out and this boy wants to play! It's such a special feeling to be with a dog that seems to be feeling so peaceful." Check back soon for the next update! REQUIREMENTS -No other animals of any kind in the household -Submit weekly photos -Live an enriching life and include the Frosted Face -Demonstrate ability to avoid scenarios of negligence that would put the Frosted Face or other animals at risk INCENTIVES -$200.00/month for a term of 12 months -We pay for veterinary expenses -Donated food and supplies To give Tigre a loving foster or forever home, please fill out our placement questionnaire at: .frostedfacesfoundation/apply Learn more about our programs at: .frostedfacesfoundation/family No adoption fees, and we provide free lifetime medical care onsite at FFF Veterinary Hospital. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
