ing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** Randy is 9yo, weighs 115lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped. Randy is 'friendly and overal low maintenance. He has free roam of his home during the day, is never crated and he is permitted to sleep wherever he wishes at night. He knows 'sit', 'down', and stay' and does well during car rides. He dislikes/fears thunderstorms. Randy's guardian adds: "Randy (or biggie) as we like to call him isi a friendly couch potato. He loves basking in the sun and going for walks. He gives the best hugs (leaning against you for pets) and can be very silly. He is a good listener and follows basic commands. Overall he is a sweetheart and loves being the center of attention." Randy's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Unfortunately, our dog has not adapted well to us having our son. He has never bitten him but has shown some aggression if my toddler annoys him." Lunge/Attack Incident: In 2021 in Newark, DE, Randy lunged at and attacked a neighbor's dogs when they attempted to breach the fence resulting in the 'two dogs and Randy going at it'; the incident punctured Randy's paw, but it healed; animal control was not involved and medical attention was not necessary. Randy's guardian states the following regarding children: Randy lives with a 2yo child; however, his guardian recommends his living with older children only, stating "Never been around children outside of our home. Would not recommend with young children. Preteens/-adolescents should be fine". Randy's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Randy hasn't lived with dogs, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "Reactive at times". Randy's guardian states the following regarding cats: Randy lives with a cat, so his guardian recommends his living with cats, stating "Curious, never aggressive". Randy's guardian describes him as: Couch potato House-Trained Likes men Likes women Randy's guardian describes his ideal future home: "The ideal home would be one where he is the only dog and no young (less than 10yo) children. He is a pretty lazy guy and would do best with a fenced yard (he would love you to pieces if you walked him though)." Rehoming Fee: None Location: Middletown, DE - Guardians will transport Randy for meet and greets in PA, NJ, & MD. ***** ADOPTION PROCESS 1. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
