EEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Bart Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of August 2024 SEX: Male Estimated Weight: 55 lbs View more cute photos of Bart here: flic.kr/s/aHBqjBLhPF Gets Along With: Other dogs! Bart has lots of fun chasing small animals, so he would do best in a home without cats. He would also do best in a home without children under 12. Currently Living at: DC area home This Adorable Pup is Looking For: His forever home! Bart is a sweet, smart, loyal boy who loves hanging out with his favorite humans. It can be scary for him to meet new people in the home and on walks, so we think he would do best with an experienced adopter who can help him continue to build his confidence through training. Bart is super smart and is doing well with his training already! He also loves spending time with other dogs and would like to have playdates where he can make lots of new friends. At 4 years old, he's out of his puppy phase, but he's always up for an adventure. Bart loves walks and hikes out in nature where he can chase squirrels and soak up all the smells the outdoors have to offer. Urban settings are less ideal for Bart while he is working on his leash introductions when meeting new people. Bart would also love a fenced yard! Most of all, this sweet boy wants a home where he will be safe and loved for all of his days. What My Foster Says About Me: If you're looking for a loyal dog with lots of love to give, this is the one for you. Bart loves being with his humans, whether it's out on a hike, practicing his training, or just relaxing at home. He is so smart too--he's awesome at following commands and learning new ones, and he'd love to keep practicing these so he can exercise his brain. He's great with his house training and is an all-around wonderful dog. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for Bart is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
