adventure that will make you do what others won't, so tomorrow you can do what others can't, as Jerry Rice said. And as Milo said, that is what happens when your owner lets you roam free in the streets and you have to survive. So by the luck of the draw, because someone knew someone and so on Milo found himself with Saving Shepherds of Mn and now a new adventure has begun. The world is his oyster and he adores meeting everyone! If it has a heartbeat, well then it must be a new friend or at a minimum, something to chase, like rabbits and squirrels. He loves playing with his female german shepherd friend that he lives with and like most women, she puts him in his place when needed. Milo concedes defeat, and hopes that she will maybe play some more but he must respect her and so it goes. The little dog he lives with well she is just too old to play with and the cats have told him no, but Milo just cannot get that they are domesticated like himself. Seriously, he wants to chase them, but Foster Mom said NO and that really ruins the fun. Foster Mom said Milo should not live with cats or toy breeds cause well they just can't hang with him. The kids in his foster home are older and he loves to cuddle, kiss and roll over for tummy rubs and take treats and play tug of war or ball. Honestly, the games could continue day and nite. He loves his family. Toddlers probably would not work for Milo, as he can jump the good jump and the young ones might find themselves rolling around with him. Foster Mom said that is not respectful and so again he must concede no very little people. So, Milo has had to deal with Foster Mom going to work and seriously he always asks everyone to skip school and work and explore the vast world to explore everything. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he asks, they tell him they must leave and then they do!! He has found himself sitting in the kennel, and yes he concedes again that he must kennel but he is certainly not opposed to treats and toys being used to strongly encourage him. All Milo can say is that this life is full of compromise. Finally at the end of the day after dinner, he loves to snuggle in his soft bed next to Foster Mom. He knows there is no bogeyman, but one never knows and Foster Mom is the safest place to be. She closes the door to keep the scary people out and we can just sleep all nite, but seriously if she leaves the door open Milo must patrol the house to make sure all is well. Milo wanted us to relate that he loves car rides. He adores them and pup cups and whatever other treats there are out there in the world. He is a super athlete and would love agility. Milo wanted us to share that he can effortlessly clear a 6 foot fence and that everyone should appreciate that talent. He told us that Foster Mom did not think it was funny and she tied him up. That sucks so if you have a 6 foot privacy fence or even taller we are sure Milo will love it. Finally Milo conceded he is learning to walk on a leash and that for some reason he cannot remember to not pull on Foster Mom sometimes so she had to use a special collar. It definitely helps, but seriously who puts those rabbits and squirrels out there? They beg for someone to chase them! Milo would also like you to know that at the end of the day inspite his gorgeous physique, he is a scardy dog. Yes, Mom has to give him medication to deal with the thunder and the lightning and Foster Mom is sure the holiday, yes do NOT Say it that the 4th of July will be a bad holiday for him. Seriously, why can't every day be Christmas? So to sum it up out of the mouth of MILO "I am a gorgeous hunk of a guy that cannot get enough of my people! I love my sis you know the shep one and she keeps me in my place. I have work to do on a leash, come on freedom is great. I love tall fences. I wil use my kennel, but it does not mean I have to like it. I have to sleep next to my people! I am terrified of the bogeyman! I hate storms and fireworks, just cause I am big does not mean I do not get scared. I love baths and spa days. The groomer and I love to play in the water! I think I would be great at agility. I have lots to learn and I love a great adventure. I really want to write a story with you that is full of love, laughter and happiness and be with someone who appreciates my zest for life. I think I might be related to Marley? Milo recently completed 5 weeks of extensive training at Premier K9!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
