e shelter because the shelter reached out for help. Gloria had some major issues with her ears, skin, immune system and the shelter didn’t have a solution for her. The shelter was unable to perform Gloria’s potential needed surgery and/or get a handle on what was going on with her immune system. We put out a plea for help and an amazing foster hero stepped up! Gloria would have continued to have degressed in the shelter environment, and it’s no telling how long she would have been able to have sustained this life style. She was truly saved by her foster human! Fast forward a few months… Gloria is by no means “cured” but her progress is outstanding. We intended on getting Gloria a surgery to help her ear situation… but her foster human was determined to allow her to heal naturally. Gloria’s condition is clearly exasperated from stress and environment… we got her into our care and her foster human has worked day in and day out on natural remedies that have brought her insanely inflamed and irritated ears to a much less severe case. Gloria’s ears are still not at 100%… but through trial and error, she is on the up and up! It is unknown what surgery or medicine she will need to make a full recovery… but now that Gloria is in a calm, clean, and stress free environment, is eating a fish protein kibble, and receiving the daily herbal treatments from her foster human… we are seeing good progress. Gloria’s condition likely stems not only from stress, but allergies… which is so typical for these blue bully breeds!!! If you know, you know lol Gloria’s future medical needs can be discussed with PKR and we are happy to go over what will and is covered by the rescue, cost wise! Dogs: Gloria has met a variety of dogs, small & large. Gloria may be able to live with other dogs with slow and careful intros. She isn’t the best at meeting dogs while on leash. Gloria is not reactive, other than some easily redirect-able excitement when she sees other dogs on walks. She will do some soft wines and tail wags. So far, Gloria doesn’t fair well with elongated leash meets with other dogs. She appears excited to meet dogs, but gets uncomfortable if the other dog is too close to her. It’s still unclear if her reaction will be the same once her ears are fully recovered (she may be experiencing some irritation and vulnerability). She has done the best with male dogs that are smaller than her and seems more triggered around female dogs and dogs much bigger than her. Overall, Gloria would love NOTHING more than to be your one and only… but we have yet to be able to confirm her ability to live with other doggies! One thing to note, Gloria’s ears/condition had a major flare up when she went to a small scale doggy daycare. (Which further proves her condition is likely exasperated with stress). Gloria is currently an only child and wow… she super ADORES it! Cats: Gloria is not currently being fostered with cats, however she has been introduced to an adult and 2 kittens. She was more or less disinterested in them and took a correction well. Her ability to live with a cat(s) is unknown! Kids: Gloria loooooves humans! We have seen her around a 6 year old boy and she went straight for kisses and requests for belly rubs. Gloria is not consistently around kiddos… however… we think she would absolutely adore having more humans to share her love with! She loves to play and cuddle! Leash training: Gloria is working on her leash skills! She walks the best with a halter style lead. She is not reactive, aside from some occasionally soft whining when she sees a doggy. She can be easily redirected from this behavior. Gloria loves some short walks. She has a very short nose and should be treated sort of like a Brachycephalic breed. Gloria would probably enjoy longer hikes, perhaps with some extra breaks! She loves being with her human and would love to follow her human on adventures! Crate training: Gloria sleeps well in her crate, with some occasional boredom/antsy behaviors (some whining, has chewed on her fluffy bed) Gloria does well outside her crate. Potty training: Gloria is potty trained and has had little to no accidents so far. Gloria is such a sweet, loving, & soulful girl. She is filled with so much love for her humans. Even meeting Gloria for 1 second… you are sure to fall in love if you think you have the heart and home for Gloria, please reach out! Gloria deserves an amazing family and we can’t wait to find that for her. Is that you??? Apply to adopt Gloria! petstablished/adoption_form/53715/generic

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
