E!!!! Name: Rosalie Best Guess for Breed: Boxer/Lab Mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of April 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 46 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Shelter, needs a forever home! Check out this video of Rosalie: youtu.be/AtxFpXCKqJE. Special Adoption Considerations: Due to the high demand for fosters, Rosalie’s only way for a freedom ride to DC is with an off-transport adoption with 2-week trial. Please submit a questionnaire if you’d like to give her a chance at finding her forever home! Rosalie is looking for: Her forever family! As a young puppy, she landed in a shelter so far south in Texas, it's only 30 miles from the Mexican border - and the shelter routinely has 1200+ animals in its care. Despite having such an enormous number to care for, shelter staff do an amazing job with all their dogs and Rosalie is a great, loving dog and wonderful with other dogs, Unfortunately, there is a massively skewed ratio of available homes to dogs in the area - so her only hope of getting a home is out of state. This is a personal message from her about what she is looking for in a home: "A loving family who can give me plenty of exercise and attention. I have a playful spirit and enjoy long walks, playing fetch, and exploring new places. My favorite thing is to be around my humans, whether we’re playing or just relaxing together. Will you make my dreams come true?" What My Foster Says About Me: Rosalie has had a little time in a home outside of the shelter in Texas, here are Rosalie's comments on her adventure: "Hi! I’m just returning from a Paw-jama Party, and I had so much fun! The family I was with said I was an extremely cuddly, loving, and sweet girl, and boy did I have fun!...Now, for a little about me…. I have so much love to give. I get along really well with other dogs, kids, people. Squirrels I find very interesting, and may be known to chase them. But that’s a conversation for another day. I am a carbohydrates girl and love being rewarded with bread, pastries, pasta, you name it!...I also really love water, and lounging by water. Pools, buckets, getting a bath, you name it, I love water. And my other passion is fetching balls and toys. Just for a few minutes, and then I’ll take pets and cuddling and just being by your side...I am excited to meet you soon and be your faithful furry companion!" Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
