s I love you. My passions are rides and going for walks. A canine brother or sister would be wonderful because I get the zoomies after my walks. Zoomies are much more fun with a playmate. I have a bit of separation anxiety and I don't like to be alone. I do have my crate that keeps me safe when you do need to run an errand and I cannot go along. My perfect family would have a big comfy couch where we can cuddle and watch TV or play games. I am content to sleep and be a couch potato while my foster mom works from home. I am learning be explore the yard, oh and a fence would be nice so that I don't go too far when zooming. I know lots of commands and sometimes I get distracted by new things. I can do stay and my release word is Mouse. When walking, I know how to halt and turn right not so sure why we would ever turn left, but working on it. I will do sit, stay, down, paw and rollover. Rollover is so so fun but it might take ma a couple tries to go all the way over. A playmate that is young like me would be ideal. I am 5 years old and weigh in at about 72 lbs. I am Catahoula Leopard Dog mixed with hounds and I am a big baby, please pet me and also belly rubs, rub my ears and you can even do my nails. Did I tell you I love car rides, Oh Yes. I tried out going through the car wash, that was kind of scary, but I did it and got a treat. Oh I do love my car rides! I do like to talk and get very attached to my family. Just look into my eyes and you can see how loving and loyal I am. FYI-no cats for me please and only children 8 and older - Only because of my size and I do take treats very gently but I am not cat safe. I am crate trained, house trained, and love belly rubs. I do need a home where there would be little time alone and we can venture out and explore the world. I am insecure and so much in the world is new to me. I like to go to shopping at Lowes, Tractor Supply and any other dog friendly establishment. I am always ready for where ever we will go next and I would love to meet you! Hey, how do you like my beautiful brown eyes? My foster mom says I look like I am part owl. One thing for sure, I love, love, love to be with my people. Dedicated and loyal, that is me!! So, if you are searching for that perfect partner in crime to ride along with you, then we could be the perfect couple. Let's meet up. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
