sh; part majestic statue, part goofy ball-fetcher, all heart. This handsome hunk had a bit of a rocky start in life, but he’s bounced back with resilience, charm, and a love for belly rubs that borders on a spiritual experience. Arlo is what we call a Tigger Doberman – bouncy, happy, sweet, and always down to snuggle. He’s got the kind of gentle soul that makes people go “a” even when he’s just sitting there, carrying a tennis ball around like it’s the Hope Diamond. Catching it? Eh. Optional. But carrying it? That’s his jam. He’s fantastic with people and gets along well with other big dogs (he's a bit of a gentle bro). As for cats and small critters? We’re not 100% sure. He hasn’t shown much interest in chasing little things on his hikes, so there’s hope – but slow intros and supervision are the way to go. Now, about that walk. Arlo has what we lovingly call a goofy gait – a little bouncy, a little wobbly, and 100% adorable. But don’t you dare pity him. Arlo is not here for your “aww poor baby” energy. He’s here to MOVE. His motto? “You don’t use it, you lose it.” So lace up those shoes, grab a leash, and let’s hit the trail. Doesn’t have to be far – just enough to catch a breeze, sniff a few bushes, and keep that 75-pound frame in shape. Let’s review Arlo’s must-haves: Fenced yard? Non-negotiable. The tie-out life is not for this proud pup. It's like asking you to do your business in the middle of Times Square. Hard pass. Walks? Yes please. Short, sweet, and regular – just how he likes them. Belly rubs? Daily. Possibly hourly. Arlo runs on belly rubs the way some of us run on caffeine. And here’s the real prize: once Arlo loves you, you’ll know. How? Because he’ll give you the grin. A full-face, ear-to-ear, pearly-white smile that could melt glaciers. That’s when you know you’ve officially won over this big bouncy boy – and it’s worth every minute. Arlo is ready to find his forever people – the kind who don’t mind a little drool on their tennis balls, who appreciate a bouncy stride, and who know that love sometimes comes wrapped in 75 pounds of Doberman delight. Think you’re the one? Arlo's waiting – tennis ball in mouth, belly up, and heart open. Apply today! .uniteddobermanrescue All potential adopters must fill out the adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
