Description

Brittany Dogs For Adoption in Curwensville, PA, USA

Dog Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Hi! My name is Ames. I'm a 13-year-old orange and white male Brittany, who along with many others, was rescued from a very bad man who liked to hoard dogs. I

was neglected, underweight, weak, and had heartworm disease for some time. But I refuse to play the victim! I prefer to let justice roll on and serve it's purpose. You can read more about our rescue here stlandrypg/2024/03/st-landry-parish-investigators-arrest-man-on-animal-cruelty-charges/ Right now, I’m enjoying the good life in a great foster home here in Northeast Ohio where I've successfully completed heartworm treatment. I gained weight and my body grew stronger. When I got this good news, I did a little boogie woogie dance. The fella playing the piano couldn't keep up with my rhythm. Later my remaining teeth were removed, and I no longer have to use breath fresheners. I was also neutered. My foster Mom use male wraps on me when I am inside the house. No senior jokes please! Since I was not in a home situation for years without training, I occasionally want to mark inside. Otherwise, I will go to the door when I need to do my business each morning and after meals. As a result of having heartworm disease, my vet cardiologist confirmed that I do have heart valve disease and pulmonary hypertension. Although I'm doing well on an inexpensive prescription for Sildenafil, it is essential to know that I will be taking this medication long-term. I may also need other medications if my condition changes as determined by a cardiologist too. I may have heart valve disease, but my heart is full of love for the humans who have treated me so kindly. It is a tender- hearted love, the kind that wants to help them, to comfort them, and to encourage them. I have seen humans cry because they have been hurt by someone. Every time this happens, I wish I had a Kleenex box available! My foster Mom considers me to be a Velcro dog. I want to know where she is and what she is doing all the time. I enjoy going for a ride but may need a little boost to get in. I can also a bit a reserved when meeting new people. I prefer women over men. Whether hazel or blue, their eyes reveal their souls. Women want to cuddle and kiss me and frequently I have been covered with pink and red lipstick. Crate training went well, and I sleep quietly overnight. A soft dog treat is expected when I am asked to enter the dog crate. Some other Fun facts about me, I enjoy eating bananas, blueberries, strawberries, hard boiled eggs, and fresh spinach is very enjoyable and tasty too. My foster Mom even adds soft veggies and fruits to my softer kibble, since I no longer have any teeth. Because I love my fruits and veggies so much, maybe one day I could try to balance couple of blueberries on my nose before flipping them off to gob them up, I bet that would make my foster Mom smile from ear to ear. I hope that my forever home will have a fenced yard, short walks, none or a few stairs to climb, (I have not been exposed to cats.), a regular professional grooming, and a very skilled, experienced veterinarian to insure my future health and happiness. I am current on vaccines, heartworm/flea/ and tick preventions. I am very fortunate to have survived a nightmarish situation. With love, I will bloom and then I will love others the way I have been loved. I send my thanks to all the humans who have cared for me and helped me. Now all that’s missing is a Forever home of my own, Is that your home? If so, please consider filling out an application for me, Ames/OH online at: nbran/adopt/adoption-application. Once your application is submitted the coordinator in the State where you reside will follow-up with you. Need to reach your State Coordinator, find their contact information here nbran/about/state-provincial-coordinators. My adoption fee is 200.00 which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing Brit like me, Ames, back to good health and readying them for adoption. Don't live in OH or close by, No Problem! NBRAN also has a wonderful transport team willing to help bring Brits like me, Ames, to their new family, up to 1400 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee. Still have questions? Contact Ohio Coordinators Roberta Ruck at roberta.ruckgmail or Erin Kennedy aterinkennedy459yahoo or Regional Director Chris Eddinger at ceddingerverizon Thank you.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
