T NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Comet and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (06/29) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)! Name: Comet Best Guess for Breed: Hound / Beagle Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of 01/22/2025 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 35 lbs. Gets Along With: Other dogs! He cannot go to a home with kids. Comet has not been seen with cats, but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special Adoption Considerations: Comet is looking to be placed with a confident doggy wingman to share in many life adventures and help him experience all that life has to offer. He cannot go to a home with kids. Comet is looking for: Someone who wants a spirited companion who’s equal parts goofy, loyal, and full of zest. This 1.5-year-old male hound mix has a heart as big as his bark and a playstyle as bold as his personality. Comet is not a purse dog; he's curious, vocal, and eager to explore. He thrives on physical activity and mental stimulation, whether it’s a long hike or a backyard wrestling match with a dog that enjoys running and playing just as much as he does. His play can be a bit rambunctious, so he’s looking for a home that understands his enthusiasm and can help channel it in positive ways. Comet has been working on his manners and is best suited to an adults-only home. With consistency, structure, and lots of love, he’ll be your most loyal sidekick. He’s already neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped – all he’s missing is a forever home. If your home includes a dog who loves a good old-fashioned throw down with another canine, Comet could be your perfect match. He's a hidden gem, and we know that for his family, Comet will be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog. What My Foster Says About Me: Comet is a young, energetic boy who needs the opportunity to play with other dogs. He's smart (already knows "sit" and "touch") and quickly makes friends with the help of a few yummy snacks. With proper love and support of both the human and canine variety, Comet's potential is unlimited. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
