facility. She hasn't had the benefit a dog her age might have who was born in a home. That being said, while she is a bit scared and timid, once she feels safe she is eager to bond with a family. She needs family who will help her slowly decompress and adjust in her own time. Sally is a friendly gentle gal. She needs a fenced in yard for her potty place. She doesn't understand leash walking. Cavaliers are Velcro dogs and Sally is no exception. Once she feels comfortable she will follow you to the bathroom and jump in the shower with her if you let her, Shew wants to be near her people. If you don't want a Velcro dog, she is not the one for you. Sally is young and is pretty talented at counter surfing or helping you finish your dinner if you leave it unattended on the dining room table. Be warned! Like all dogs, she will need structure and a patient, loving home. We recommend training for all dogs, not only to give Sally important learning skills, but because you and your dog will create a stronger bond just by going through the training together. Sally is fully vetted. She has been spayed, received age-appropriate vaccines, and is microchipped. Subsequent vaccines will be at the expense of her adopter. Her adoption donation is $1200..00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family. Little dogs can live to be 20+ years old, so Sally wants to be sure her family is all in for better or for worse! IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 9 MONTHS): You must have a flexible work schedule or someone home all day. Puppies need to be let out to potty often. They need socialization, bonding, and training (housetraining and behavioral training). If you work long hours, have a busy social schedule, or are not financially secure, then a puppy is not for you. We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits. If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate for Sally, please fill out an application for her adoption on our website at: .rescuetailsanimalwelfare/info/adoption. The first step in the process is to complete an application. We are all volunteers with full-time jobs. We try to get back to all applicants within 72 hours. We are an in home foster volunteer group. We are not a brick and mortar, If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at: RescueTailsAnimalWelfaregmail. If you aren’t looking to adopt but still would like to help Sally , please consider a donation for her food, housing, and veterinary care. To donate, please visit: .rescuetailsanimalwelfare

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
