st soul and loves to be loved. She’s playful, goofy, and loves being with her people. She had heartworm treatment over the Fall/Winter and is now loving life not being on exercise restrictions. She has a heartworm test at the end of July and if it’s negative then she will be spayed. She loves to chase squirrels and birds and will spend all day sitting outside making sure the squirrels stay out of her yard. She also loves her 1-2 daily walks and for the most part she does well on the leash during walks, but we are working on her pulling when she’s on the leash anywhere else. Even though she's part Heeler, her energy level is pretty moderate. Our walks are 1-2 miles and if shes outside she'll patrol the yard and chase squirrels, but she'll also hang out on the deck. Some things she likes doing while inside- playing with toys, chewing bones, and looking out the window. She would love if her forever home has a big window she can look out, fenced yard, and a family that will spoil her with attention. She’s met a few kids ranging in ages from 3-13 and she was great with them. She hasn’t met anyone she doesn’t like. She can get mouthy/nippy when playing and she will run out the door if it’s open with no one blocking it to stop her so if she goes to a house with kids, older kids would be a better fit for her. She is picky about dogs so she would like to be the only dog in the house. She will need slow introductions to dogs and does better with dogs who are calm and give her space. The first week she was free to run in the yard she did fence fight the neighbor's dogs, but she’s really quick to pick things up and takes redirection really well so after working with her, she doesn't care about those dogs, even if they come up to the fence and bark at her. She is not a fan of the kennel so she's free to roam the house when left alone and she does great. She is warming up to car rides, but gets nauseas/stressed in the car so no road trips for this gal. Gracie is such an amazing dog and if you’re looking for a dog who can be independent, but still loves attention; is cuddly, but also playful then she's your girl! Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history. //

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
