ihuahua small terrier mix weighing about 10lbs and am under a year old. I have a lot of playful puppy in me. I have a mostly white tail that curls forward and a tan and white coat that is so soft and smooth it almost feels like suede! I like to hug your hand when you introduce yourself, I love to eat anything and everything put before me, I enjoy going on walks, I like making new friends at the dog park and am always up to go on a new adventure. Everything is so new to me; I just want to be in the mix. My sponsor has really gotten me into Rick and Morty, but I’m not old enough to get the meta jokes and he has to explain it to me. I’ve been chewing on what I assume were expensive custom Lego sets so I like those. I’ve been asking my foster sister who is very wise a lot of “WHY?” questions. She an old pug and she just sighed heavily and gave me my sponsors iPhone to Wikipedia all my questions. Thing is, I can’t read yet or am sure how to use the apps! Anyway, I think I’d make a great side kick to someone looking for a little loyal shadow to follow you everywhere. I can taste test your food for you to make sure its cooked properly, I can definitely let you know when it’s time to wake up or go out, and at bedtime I can thoughtfully listen to what your day was like so you can fall asleep faster. My sponsor says I am definitely exhibiting signs that I have a superpower to make you forget about your stress and I make beds and sofas magnetic. I don’t know how I can use my budding powers for good, but maybe that’s where you come in, The right home and I can grow up be the super hero San Antonio needs. The wrong home and I can become a supervillain with designs of world conquest. Who knows!? I’m just a puppy with a wiggly tail. My foster says that if I could speak I'd sound A LOT like Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation, innocent and infinitely amazed by everything I see. I am polite when I meet new people, like children, love playing chase with other dogs. I enjoy car rides, and I did well during my first bath, although I do not like the air blower and prefer a soft calming towel dry. I’m still a puppy so I’m generally curious about anything and everything. My foster and I are working on my house and leash training. I would really like a home of my very own, and more than anything I’d love a sofa to lay next to you and a bed and some heavy blankies to sleep with you. I have the gentlest little snore that will put you into the deepest sleep and guaranteed to deliver the sweetest dreams. If you have room in your heart and your home, think of ME, Chili Gunz (A745707)!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
