Name: Runner Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and lab mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of May 2025 Gender:Male Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs!We haven't seen him with kids or cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Special Adoption Considerations: Runner was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. Runner is Looking For: His forever home! This cutie landed in the shelter due to no fault of his own. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Runner wants to run! Making new pup pals along the way would be great too. But what he wants most of all is to know he's safe and loved and under his own roof. What My Foster Says About Me: Runner is doing well with house and leash training. He knows "sit" and is a quick learner who is eager to please. He is lovable and wants to be a lap dog. He loves being with his humans and cuddling. He has already learned his daily routine. From his dogs day out: He was really good on leash and chill. He loved taking a break in the grass and snuggle at the park. This sweet boy is indeed a champion snuggler! He was friendly to all people and dogs he met on his walk. He gently greeted the children he met in his walks. He is happy to go out on his adventures and settles nicely in the car. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
