cuddle with. She has a lot of energy though and would really do best with a large fenced yard where she can run and even hunt some squirrels and lizards. Please watch for video below. Here's a little from her foster mom: Nora has been with us for a full month, and because we have other fosters and also pet sitting clients, she has been with 10 to 12 other dogs at a time. Because she can get very possessive of toys, we have just put all the toys away and things have been fabulous. She is an absolute joy and pleasure to have. If she were an only dog, toys might be a source of great fun between her and her humans. She loves toys, maybe she just loves them too much LOL. Nora spent some time boarding with a wonderful trainer who helped us understand more about Nora. She came back much more responsive and obedient. She comes when called, knows sit and in your crate. She doesn't mind being in her crate as long as she's had some exercise. She can nap with the best of us! Here's a little from her trainers, "Nora loves being carried from her crate to the door upside down like the baby that she is. She plays hard, but does well with our daycare crew whether they’re 10lbs or 150lbs. This girl is ready to either go on an adventure - or have an all day cuddle on the couch with some snacks… and boy can this girl snack. She definitely loves food, which makes her a breeze for training." Nora comes with a free 6 week Level 1 Obedience Class through Procyon Training in Ocala, FL or 3 virtual online sessions. One other thing we want you to know - when Nora first came into the rescue, we noticed a little opacity in her left eye. We took her to the Veterinary Eye Institute and they confirmed it was a congenital defect which will remain the same. It does cause some slight vision impairment on that side though... just something to be aware of. Nora is heartworm negative and is ready for a sleepover if you are interested in falling in love with her.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
