Cory has excellent house manners. He is fully house trained and at night sleeps calmly in his crate. During the day he's happy lounging in his favorite spots or leaning up against you for some pets and butt scratches. He greets new people politely, never jumps up, and is very quiet around the house. He hardly ever barks — only giving a soft, playful bark when he's squeaking a toy or occasionally if he's chasing a squirrel. He doesn't bark at people at the door, which makes him a very easy companion.
Cory has made big progress with leash walking, but he will need continued, consistent work. He does best with a gentle leader and is learning to focus more on his person rather than pulling toward smells. While he can still pull and zig-zag, he responds well to reminders and corrections, and with consistency he will continue to improve until he walks with a slack leash more reliably. He's learning "leave it" around cats and other dogs, and he's already very polite when passing dogs behind fences. Cory knows a long list of commands — sit, stay, come, sit up, watch me, leave it, and wait. He even has good mealtime manners with his own food, sitting patiently until he hears "okay" before eating. He's very food-motivated, but equally responsive to praise and affection, especially during walks.
Cory is a medium-energy dog who thrives with daily exercise and a bit of mental stimulation. He loves fetch, squeaky toys, hikes, and wading in the river. He'll occasionally swim and is even learning to sit on a paddle board! When he burns off energy with ball play, a walk or jog, and maybe a puzzle toy or training game, he's content to nap and relax the rest of the day. A yard isn't required as long as his family gives him opportunities to move and play.
Cory is happiest as the only dog in the home right now. He can be selective with other dogs and is still learning polite greetings, so slow, structured introductions are best. He is not a match for cats, as he still wants to chase them. With people, though, he shines — he adores kids, lighting up with excitement when he sees them on walks. Because he sometimes guards high-value toys and plays with enthusiasm, a home with older children will set everyone up for success.
Overall, Cory is a healthy, affectionate, and incredibly smart companion. He's already made remarkable progress with training and is ready to keep learning with a confident, loving family who can give him consistency, exercise, and plenty of snuggles.
