t trial, please fill out an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. We have until March 20 to find Mosby a foster, adopter, or someone who would like to foster her with the intention of adopting in San Diego or she will go back to Ensenada where her rescuer can continue to foster her. Mosby is a Baja mutt, rescued as a stray from Ensenada, Mexico. We believe she is a shepherd/collie mix because of her looks and behavior. She has been fully vetted in San Diego and is a heatlhy dog ready for adoption. We have learned who Mosby is and we can say the following: She is full grown, probably in the 10- to 18-month-old range. She is a nice, mid 40-pound dog who could and up being 50 to 55 pound once she stops growing. Mosby is amazing with men, women, and children. Sometimes there can be a bark or two when she meets people who come into the home or during leash walks, but once you great her and love her, that stops because she adores getting love from humans. She does great with dogs of all sizes/breeds/genders and is always romping around with them in the home. She can be a bit dominant or hesitant during initial introductions, but once she knows the other dog, they become good friends. Mosby does best with dogs 20 pounds and above only because of the rough play that can sometimes ensue. Mosby is crate and house trained, does well in the car, and is not a vocal dog. She loves having something to do and absolutely lives for toys. Mosby needs an adopter who is looking for a dog to bond with over activities, either exploring together outside or playing fetch indoors. She cannot be inside the house all the time or in bored in the yard. That being said, she doesn't need a home with a yard and would do well in an apartment setting, as long you are active and get her outside regularly for exercise. Mosby needs a home with no cats. Although she has not tried anything with the cats in her current foster, she is too focused on them and if not supervised she likely could try something. Same with a home with rabbits, birds, and other small pets, as she likely would exhibit prey drive. Adopting Mosby means you should already be thinking of enrolling in dog training class. We believe all dog owners should start a training class unless you have previously completed dog training with a professional trainer and know how to get your new dog set up for success. We don't hold adoption events, but we can schedule a meet and greet in the 92110 area. Please submit an application online and we can schedule a call to answer any questions/concerns. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
