oted companion who will bring joy and laughter to your home? Say hello to Rosie, a gorgeous 6-year-old Boxer with a heart of gold! Born in June of 2019, Rosie (officially Seerose Von Kaiserfelsen, but she prefers Rosie!) just celebrated her birthday and is ready to trade her past life for a future filled with squeaky toys, outdoor adventures, and all the love she deserves. Rosie is a former breeder dog who lived with a family for 18 months after her release and has now been thriving with her foster family for almost three months. While she was a wonderful mom, she's now ready to enjoy the single life! As she's grown more comfortable with her foster family over these past months, her true loving, playful personality has emerged. She's spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations, so she's ready to settle right into her new home. This girl has revealed herself to be a fun-loving companion who adores her squeaky ball and has invented her own entertaining game of "blocking" her humans from walking around by playfully barking and pretending to nip at toes - she's quite the character! She's house-trained and crate-trained, sleeping soundly in her crate in her foster mom's bedroom each night. She's even discovered that the couch makes a pretty comfortable spot for relaxing! Rosie is a devoted companion who wants to be wherever her humans are - she especially loves "helping" with outdoor gardening tasks! She's proven to be an excellent travel buddy too, riding calmly and quietly in her crate during a recent road trip to Colorado. Now, let's be upfront: Rosie is a big, strong girl who still jumps up on people at times and can get quite enthusiastic in her play. Because of her size and exuberant personality, we think she would thrive best in a home with older children or adults who can handle her spirited nature. Rosie is a girl who appreciates her personal space, especially when it comes to certain prized possessions! She can be a bit of a resource guarder with food, toys, and when competing for human attention. We're working on this in her foster home, but it's something her future family should be aware of. Because of this, and because she hasn't gotten along with her foster brother, Rosie would be happiest as the only dog in the home. She just wants all the love and attention for herself! Rosie is also currently working on achieving her ideal figure, but with regular walks and active play sessions, she'll be strutting her stuff in no time! If you're looking for a loving, devoted companion who will fill your home with playful energy, loyal companionship, and endless entertainment, then Rosie might just be your perfect match! Come meet this sweet girl and see if you can resist her soulful eyes and spirited personality! To Summarize Rosie's Ideal Home: Adults or families with older children (teens and up) - no small children due to her size and jumping. A home where she can be the only dog. Someone who understands and can manage resource guarding. An active household that can appreciate her playful nature. Lots of love, squeaky toys, and couch cuddles!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
