S A FOREVER HOME!!! Come meet Breanna and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (7/13) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Breanna Best Guess for Breed: Retriever and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of November 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 50 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids, but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. Breanna is a little too fixated with cats so she should not go to a home with cats. Currently Living at: DC area boarding partner; she would love a foster home while searching for her forever family! Breanna is Looking For: Her forever family! This sweet mama did an amazing job of raising her babies Bambi, Beatrice, Bernie, Beth, Bex, Billie, Birdie, Bowie, and Butterscotch and they're off with their own forever families. Now she has all that love and affection piling up, ready to bestow upon her new humans. She's in her prime and has all that awesome young-dog energy. She's eager for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her family can dream up. She just wants to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. She has so much to offer. Adoring gazes, love, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is Breanna the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Breanna is the sweetest, most loving girl. She has such an expressive, happy face - pictures don't even do her justice!! The boarding staff describes her as "sweet and intelligent" sooo I think that tells you as much as you need to know about her. She LOVES people. As soon as someone pets her once at an event, she becomes your best friend and if they walk by she goes running over to them. She loves going on walks and adventures and will trot happily by your side. She’s also a natural hiker, climbing over rocks and walking along the trail with grace. She is very alert and in tune to her surroundings. She's always watching and likes to look out the car window and take it all in. She’s energetic and playful but not restless. Breanna is food- and treat-motivated and eager to learn. She knows “sit,” “look at me,” and “touch.” At events, she can be found napping, eating treats, or looking longingly at everyone who walks by as if she's never been fed or pet before in her life (I promise she has). She is the most loyal, loving girl who would love a family to teach her the world is safe and that it's ok to relax sometimes! She is the sweetest, smartest, most eager-to-please girl and will be the best addition to any family Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
