arm, energy and snuggles that you could ask for. He truly brightens our days! Woof-Facts Name: Kyle Breed: Boston Terrier Beagle mix Weight: ~25 lbs. Age: Between 1.5–3 years Gender: Male Health: Neutered and up to date on vaccinationsMore Info... Forever home recommendations: Kyle is looking for a home with a patient, loving and caring human(s) who wants a lifetime full of tail wags and snuggles. Kyle is learning commands quickly, is eager to please, and loves showing off his new skills. His forever person(s) will need to continue to work on teaching Kyle his manners (normal puppy-type stuff) and to help guide him along the way. Kyle prefers slow introductions to new people, but warms up quickly (treats help!). Kyle previously lived in an apartment with multiple other dogs. The dogs were cared for by their humans, however, they never experienced the outside world. RHF rescued 5 of the dogs, and they are all in separate foster homes learning how to live their best life. We’re looking for a forever home who will give Kyle his very best forever life. Kids: Kyle is good with kids, but we believe he would thrive best in an adult only home. He can become mouthy when he's anxious, so a calmer, more predictable environment would help him feel secure. Dogs: Gets along well with the other dog in his current foster home. And got along fine while living with the multiple dogs in his former residence. Cats: Has not yet been around cats Crate trained: Isn’t a big fan of the crate but does OK for short stays, i.e., taking naps, for meals or when foster parent is on a conference call. He may cry a bit (doesn’t like missing out on the excitement – woof!), but he settles in just fine. House trained: Working on house training and is doing fantastic Leash manners: Walks great on a leash. He is reactive to other dogs on walks, but it’s important to note that he is not aggressive, his reactivity is based on overstimulation and anxiety, not hostility. But he continues to improve. Personality: Fun-loving and affectionate–the perfect mix of playful puppy and loving companion. He’s got a little bit of mischief, a lot of energy, and an unlimited supply of cuddles. Whether he’s zooming around the yard or curling up next to you, he’s 100% committed to whatever he’s doing! How did Kyle find himself at Rescue Haven Foundation: RHF rescued Kyle through a collaboration with a NYC shelter and a family-in-need. Interested in Kyle? Fill out an application at rescuehaven

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
