eat motivated so he makes sure to get a treat when he does use the pad. There are still times when he will be in the middle of playing and just stop and go potty. It is becoming less now that he knows he gets a treat if he goes on the pad, but it still happens at times. He is quiet and keeps his kennel clean all night, but if he happens to need to go potty he will make a little noise, like pawing at the kennel or giving a little whimper. He is not a fan of being left alone in the kennel while his human is away but we are working on that. He is very vocal but will eventually quiet and settle for a bit. He does have accidents in the kennel during the day when I have to leave. Kramer is more of a loner when it comes to snuggles and the like. He will come to you on his terms for some loving and attention. Kramer shows a little interest in my small senior dog and is very respectful of her when she tells him that he is being too pushy. He will paw at her and lay down on his belly. He will give her space and try again at a later time. He has also had his brother Jerry with him and they definitely keep each other busy. He has not been around kids or cats. I do believe he would do well with both if properly introduced. The only thing I have found that Kramer does not like is the word no. Collar and leash training are still in the works, but he is very excited and shows interest outside, he just needs to focus on the business at hand. As outside is all new to him, along with all the sights and sounds, so he just needs time to acclimate and he will be a great walker. He will absolutely stop to chew on a stick that he deems chew-worthy. He rides well in a crate in the car, quiet and calm, falling asleep at times. His energy level will require someone more active and ready for adventure. A fenced yard would be ideal if unable to get out and go for walks or hikes to burn off his energy as he has a lot of it. Kramer's favorite things to do are to eat, sleep, and play with toys, and his brother. They love running laps together inside. He really likes the kong type toys, or cloth rope type toys, as tug of war is his specialty. He will play with a squeaky toy also. He is left currently with his brother 3 days a week for 6-7 hours each day in the kennel and this is something we are still working on as, again, he does not like when his human is out of sight. He is very vocal but will calm down and settle eventually for a time. He requires a space where there is nothing he can chew on if not kenneled as he seeks out wires to chew on. He absolutely can and will escape a playpen if it is not covered. He cannot wait to meet his forever family! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: #595.00

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
