ng events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 2 years (as of 01/29/25) Weight: 52 lbs (as of 05/14/25) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Jude! Jude is a striking red merle Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix with the brains and energy to match his beautiful coat! This smart, eager-to-please young adult is looking for an active home that understands and appreciates the needs of a working breed. Although he does love activity, he is happy to chill on the couch after his exercise needs are met. Jude is affectionate, outgoing, and highly intelligent. He is house trained, crate trained, and working on his leash skills and has made some great improvements! He enjoys meeting new people, going on walks, playing, and engaging with his environment. While he will settle after exercise, Jude thrives with at least 1-2+ hours of daily activity and mental stimulation. He is very food motivated and loves training! He currently gets a lot of his exercise playing with his foster sister, but is happy to take naps throughout the day. If there is no resident dog he will need other outlets for exercise. He should not be placed in a home with cats, as he sees them as something to herd. When it comes to kids, we’d recommend a home with older, sturdy children (10+) who understand that Jude’s natural instinct to "nudge" or "herd" is just part of his DNA! He is a smart boy and basic group training classes is recommended to help him learn some fun new skills, socialize with other humans and dogs, as well as build that fur-ever bond with you! Jude’s story is one of resilience—rescued off the streets, he’s now ready for a second chance at the loving, active, home he deserves. If you're looking for a loyal, trainable, and adventure-ready companion, Jude just might be your perfect match! An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
